Menu for puppies. Guidelines for feeding puppies

Continuing the theme, how to feed a large breed puppy, I propose to consider an approximate menu for puppies. This will help you, as a beginner, navigate this difficult and exciting business. Do not forget that to any diet, the puppy must be transferred gradually so as not to harm his digestive system. This is especially true if the puppy ate dry food, and you decided to transfer it to natural food. Conversely, if the puppy was fed with natural products, it can be transferred to dry food, but this should be done, again, gradually. This applies not only to puppies, but also to dogs in adulthood.

Number of feedings per day by puppy age:

  • from 1 to 2 months. – 7 times a day
  • from 2 to 3 months. – 6 times a day
  • from 3 to 4 months. – 5 times a day
  • 4 to 8 months – 4 times a day
  • from 8 to 1,5 years - 3 times a day
  • from 1,5 years - 2 times a day

While your puppy is growing, he needs to be given a lot of dairy products (homemade cottage cheese, kefir, fermented baked milk, sour cream). But, when reducing feeding, first of all, you need to reduce the amount of dairy products. And then follows a diet where meat food begins to predominate.

Many dog breeders feed their puppies with natural food, but they also do not refuse dry food, as they saturate the small body with all the necessary vitamins and minerals that are sometimes lacking in the diet, especially in winter. If the daily diet of your puppies contains high-quality dry food, vitamins can be omitted. All this is already in balanced dry food. Alternate feedings with natural products and dry food, but do not mix them in one plate. As practice shows, the liver in dogs suffers from this.

The indicated menus for puppies are indicative. Analyze the state of health, toilet and mood of the puppies, this will help you more accurately select the menu and diet for the baby. Feeding for each puppy is individual.

Remember that the puppy is not suitable for food from your table. The fact is that human food with spices and the amount of salt, which is too high for dogs, as well as fried, smoked food can harm his health. Dogs need to be prepared separately.
